Do search engines use meta tags any more?
The “description” tag is still relevant. If its content is close enough to that of your page, Google will use it as your site description when it results search results. A well-written description should increase your CTR, which brings you more free traffic, and possibly a boost in rank due to perceived relevance associated with a higher CTR.
The “keywords” tag is pretty much useless.
